

STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — Longtime Staten Islander James E. Duffy, 76, of Bulls Head, a loving patriarch who is remembered for his devotion to his family, died Tuesday in Staten Island University Hospital, in Ocean Breeze.
Born and raised in Brooklyn, in 1968 he moved to Mariners Harbor, where he lived most of his life. He recently settled in Bulls Head.
Mr. Duffy worked in the meter operations division of Consolidated Edison for 25 years. He retired about 20 years ago.
He served in the U.S. Navy and was a member of the Cichon Post, American Legion.
He was an avid bowler and a softball pitcher, and also enjoyed fishing off the piers in Midland Beach.
He was kind and generous, and family and friends often turned to him for just about anything, whether they needed a ride, help around the house or advice.
He cherished time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, who lovingly called him “Pop-Pop.”
Mr. Duffy was preceded in death by his first wife, the former Mary Ann Mary Ann Mittenzwei.
He was a parishioner of St. Michael’s R.C. Church, Mariners Harbor, and a member of the Knights of Columbus.
Surviving are his wife, the former Lillian D. Raymond; his sons, James Jr., Timothy and Kevin; his daughter, Kimberly DeMeyer; six stepsons, Paul, James, John, Todd, Joey and Jeff Collins; 22 grandchildren, and 11 great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be Saturday from the Casey Funeral Home, Castleton Corners, with a mass at 9:30 a.m. in St. Michael’s Church. Burial will follow in Resurrection Cemetery, Pleasant Plains.
