James worked as a manager of inward freight for American Export Lines and retired in 1994. He was born in Brooklyn and moved to Staten Island as a young child. He then relocated to Manchester, N.J., in 1999.
James served in the Naval Reserve and was an avid baseball fan who rooted for the St. Louis Cardinals since he was a child.
James was married for 57 years to his wife, Evelyn, who passed away in 2010. He is survived by his children, James Gribbin, Susan Gribbin, Barbara Dreisch and Ellen Gribbin. His son, Thomas Gribbin, predeceased him in 1992. He is also survived by four grandchildren.
Visitation is Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at Casey Funeral Home, with a 9:30 a.m. Mass on Wednesday at St. Teresa's Church.
