Jean D. Barton

Born November 6, 1919

STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. - Jean D. Barton, 93, of Dongan Hills, a homemaker with a vivacious personality, died Thursday in Staten Island University Hospital, Ocean Breeze.

Born Jean D. Carollo in Brooklyn, she moved with her family to Dongan Hills as a young girl.

A homemaker, Mrs. Barton was a phenomenal Italian cook known for making lasagna, baked ziti and "out of this world" meatballs.

A music aficionado, she loved to dance and used to enter competitions with her brothers. She was a parishioner of St. Ann's R.C. Church, Dongan Hills.

"She was a vibrant, vivacious, glamorous, beautiful woman — a Marilyn Monroe type — who was full of life and was always laughing. Even in her old age, she still had style and grace," said her son, Richard.

"She was dearly loved by all her nieces and nephews," he added.

Her husband of 62 years, William J. Barton, died last year.

In addition to her son, Richard, Mrs. Barton is survived by a sister, Angela Ward.

The funeral will be tomorrow from the Virginia Funeral Chapel, Dongan Hills, with a mass at 10 a.m. in St. Ann's Church. Burial will follow in St. Mary's Cemetery, Grasmere.

I am sad to learn of my Great-aunt Jean's death and I regret not being able to visit her in the last several years. I don't visit Staten Island these days being in San Diego and Chicago before that. However, I have fond memories of visiting Aunt Jean and Uncle Buzz at the old house when I was a kid; before growing up, moving away and starting my own family. I sympathize with Cousin Richie and wish Aunt Jean peace in heaven. With love,
