Born Joan Clancy in Queens, she also lived in Manhattan before moving to Midland Beach in 1946.
A graduate of the former St. Peter’s High School for Girls in New Brighton, she was a homemaker who enjoyed gardening and cats. She was also the director of volunteers for the group Freedom from Fear.
Mrs. Mazzeo was a parishioner of St. Ann’s R.C. Church, Dongan Hills.
She is survived by her husband of 55 years, Frederick Mazzeo; three sons, Frederick, Gerard and Thomas; a daughter, Theresa Toto; two brothers, Henry and William Montanus, and four grandchildren.
The funeral will be Saturday from the Virginia Funeral Chapel, Dongan Hills, with a mass at 9:30 a.m. in St. Ann’s Church. Burial will follow in Moravian Cemetery, New Dorp.
