Joan B. Stiland

Joan B Stiland 84, Beloved mother, Loving grandmother and cherished great grandmother passed away on Sept 26, 2023. Joan was born on Staten Island in 1938 to Harry and Mildred Matthews in Stapleton, She graduated from Curtis High school. She met her future husband Louis E Stiland on the Staten Island Ferry. She was married in 1957 and had 3 children Keith (Elizabeth), Linda and Chris. 2 beautiful grandchildren Kevin (Lisa) and Megan (Chris). 2 cherished great grandchildren Christopher and Harper.

Joan was a homemaker who greatly enjoyed cooking and spending time with family and friends. She was an avid reader and enjoyed jigsaw and crossword puzzles, and was a pro at suduko,and playing cards with her best friend Jean. Her great grandson Christopher was her best buddy, they had such a close bond. He loved to climb on her lap and just snuggle together. He could always make her feel better. Joan lived in Westerleigh her entire married life, in a home her father- in -law built. She became the matriarch of the block after her husband Louis who was the mayor of the block passed away in 2019. Her house was the gathering spot, everyone knew who the ladies were sitting outside. Everyone would wave as they go down the block or stop and talk to them. Everyone was welcomed.

Mrs Stiland is predeceased by her husband Louis, her parents Harry and Millie, her brother Eddie and Sister Barbara. She is survived by her son Keith dtr- in- law Elizabeth, daughter Linda, Son Chris, grandson Kevin (Lisa), granddaughter Megan (Chris) and two great grandchildren Christopher and Harper, brother Mickey brother-in-law Phil, and sister -in-law Ann, many nieces and Nephews and friends who are more like her adopted children.

In lieu of flowers, contributions in Joan's memory may be made to St Jude Children's Research Hospital.
