WWII Marine Corps veteran; 'family man through and through'
John D. Annetta passed peacefully on May 22, 2020, due to complications from COVID-19. His children were with him as he went to rest.
John was born in Bayonne, N.J. June 19, 1927, to John and Rose Annetta (nee Bevilacqua). He left school to help run the family business, "Bevilacqua Bakery." The bakery did not survive the Great Depression, but until they closed they always handed out unsold bread to members of their community in need.
At 18 he enlisted in the US Marine Corps and was stationed in Nagasaki. After the war, he returned home and met an attractive young lady from Brooklyn. They got engaged and on Jan. 8, 1950. he married Angelina (Lee) Annetta (nee Corsaro). They settled into their new home in Castleton Corners and started raising a family.
For 33 years he worked at the Bayonne Navy Yard. After his retirement, he started a new job as a driver for United Cerebral Palsy. His passenger/patients were always so happy to see him pull up in the van.
In his downtime, he enjoyed travelling with his wife and family. They spent winters in Florida and summers up in the Catskills.
He was a family man through and through and always said the most important thing in life is "la famiglia"
He was predeceased by his wife, Lee and his three brothers, Joseph, Vincent, and Michael. He is survived by his three children, Rosemarie (Vincent) D'Adamo, Frank Annetta, and Gabriella Annetta; five grandchildren, Frank Annetta, Gina D'Adamo, Vinnie (Michael) D'Adamo, Christine (John) Conevery and Roberta (James) Ganno, and four great-grandchildren, Sienna, John, Amelia and Luke.
