

Postal carrier, Yankees fan
John Curtis Holzer, 74, of Castleton Corners, passed away on Saturday, April 22, 2017, after a courageous battle with cancer.
A lifelong resident of Staten Island, he was a graduate of McKee High School. Curtis spent more than 35 years of his working career as a carrier for the U.S. Postal Service. An active member of N.A.R.F.E., he was also a member and treasurer of the Westerleigh chapter of AARP. He enjoyed gardening, baseball (especially the New York Yankees) and reading newspapers. Mostly though, he enjoyed family gatherings and visits with his immediate neighbors.
Curtis was predeceased by his parents, John "Hans" and Frieda Holzer. A dear cousin of Marilyn Cherego,Thomas Hanson, and the late Joan Goett, he will always be remembered as being thoughtful, kind and considerate.
Visitation will be today, Monday, April 24, from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Harmon Funeral Home. A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, April 25, at 10:30 a.m. at Immanuel Lutheran Church, 2024 Richmond Ave. Interment will follow at Moravian Cemetery.
