John was born on April 27, 1930 in New York, New York to John and Irene LaGreca. After high school he enlisted in the Army and fought in the Korean War. On February 3, 1957, he married Frances DiMeglio. They raised three children, John, Irene and Michael.
John prided himself on being a “Harlem Knight.” He was passionate about baseball and rooting for the New York Yankees. He also was the owner of two trotters, Molly Frost and Chicken Little. After retirement from the U.S. Postal Service as a Supervisor, John enjoyed trips to Atlantic City, dancing and vacations with his family. He attended many of his grandchildren’s sporting events and recitals. John considered himself blessed to spend the last 7 years with his great-grandchildren. However, it was his family that was truly blessed.
John was preceded in death by his parents, sisters Bridget, Anna and Rose, and brother Anthony. He is survived by his wife Frances, children John, husband of Andrea, Irene, wife of the late Benjamin, and Michael; grandchildren Alex, husband of Angela, Dominique, wife of Alberto, Matthew, fiancé of Shannon and Felicia, companion of Stephen; great-grandchildren Julianna, John and Vincent; devoted havapoo, Teddy.
Visitation will be held on March 10, 2021 at 4:00 pm at Harmon Funeral Home, 571 Forest Avenue, Staten Island, NY. Mass of Christian Burial will be held on March 11, 2021 at 10:30 am at St. Adalbert's RC Church, 337 Morningstar Road, Staten Island, NY.
