

Longtime Staten Islander John J. Santimauro Sr., 87, of Monroe, N.J., a retired foreman for the city Sanitation Department, died Friday in University Medical Center of Princeton at Plainsboro, N.J.
Born and raised in Brooklyn, he settled in Richmondtown in 1987.
Mr. Santimauro worked for 25 years as a foreman for the city Sanitation Department and retired in 1984.
He was a member of the Berry Houses senior center in Dongan Hills, the Friendship Club, Pleasant Plains, and Labetti Post, Rosebank
Mr. Santimauro enjoyed watching old movies on television, especially westerns. He also liked to watch and support his favorite team, the New York Yankees. A skilled tinkerer, Mr. Santimauro had the ability to fix almost anything, said his family.
Mr. Santimauro served as a yeoman in the U.S. Navy, aboard the USS Springfield in the Pacific Theater during WWII, earning several medals for his service.
“My father was extremely proud to be an American and veteran, said his son,” John Jr.
His wife, the former Florence Miranda, of 63 years, died in 2011.
In addition to his son John Jr, surviving are his son, Robert; a brother, Nicholas; four grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be Tuesday from the Casey McCallum Rice South Shore Funeral Home, Great Kills. Mr. Santimauro’s nephew, Father Eric Rapaglia will conduct the 11 a.m. mass in Our Lady Star of the Sea, R.C. Church, Huguenot. Burial will follow in Holmdel Cemetery, Holmdel, N.J.
