STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. -- Joseph V. Armocida, 61, of Arden Heights, a retired Merrill Lynch vice president who loved spending time with his family, died Tuesday at Staten Island University Hospital, Ocean Breeze.
Born in Brooklyn, Mr. Armocida moved to Arden Heights in 1989. He attended Brooklyn College.
Mr. Armocida began working for Merrill Lynch in Manhattan in 1972, rising to vice president before retiring in 2005. His duties included overseeing computer operations.
He served in the U.S. Army National Guard.
When his children were younger, he was a member of the Father’s Football Club at Tottenville High School.
In his leisure time, he collected coins, and enjoyed watching movies and reading. He also liked to take trips to Atlantic City. Most of all, he loved spending time with his grandchildren.
“He was a loving husband, and a good father and the best Papa,” said his wife of 40 years, the former Jane Gentile.
In addition to his wife, Jane, surviving are his sons, Patrick; a daughter, Dyanna Mana; his mother, Ann Armocida; a sister, Joann Zurica, and four grandchildren.
The funeral will be Saturday from the Casey-McCallum- Rice South Shore Funeral Home, Great Kills, with a mass at 10:30 a.m. in St. Thomas the Apostle R.C. Church, Pleasant Plains. Burial will follow in Resurrection Cemetery, Pleasant Plains.
