

Born in Brooklyn, he moved with family to Livingston when he was 2 years old. He settled in Westerleigh in 1956.
Mr. Ciulla attended Curtis High School.
A World War II veteran, he served in the U.S. Army from 1942 to 1946. The technical staff sergeant was stationed in the China/Burma/India theater and participated in the building of the Burma road.
After his military service, he founded Typewriter Sales and Service and operated the business for 39 years. He retired in 1986.
Mr. Ciulla was a member of the Staten Island Chamber of Commerce, Italian Club of Staten Island and the Veterans of Foreign Wars honor guard.
He was a major contributor to the Port Richmond Developmental Center, family said. He also enjoyed bowling, and was a sponsor and participant of Typewriter Sales' winning bowling league, based at Tavern on the Green. He also liked competitive table tennis.
He enjoyed traveling with family and friends throughout the United States and to Europe and the Panama Canal.
Mr. Ciulla loved fine dining and cooking at home and was renowned amongst family for his seafood extravaganza and his "perfect pizza."
"My father loved most of all taking care of family and being with family. Family was his number-one priority," said his son, John Ciulla.
Mr. Ciulla was a parishioner of St. Rita's R.C. Church, Meiers Corners, and was president of the parish Golden Age Club.
Along with his son, John, surviving are his wife of 65 years, the former Josephine LaBita; his son, Joseph Jr.; his daughter, Maria Chernock; a sister, Mary Cicinelli; four grandchildren, and three great-grandsons.
The funeral service will be Monday at 10 a.m. in the Casey Funeral Home, Castleton Corners. Entombment will follow in Woodbridge (N.J.) Memorial Gardens
