

Joseph T. Gabrielline, age 93, passed away peacefully at home on January 15. Joe was born in Brooklyn on October 2, 1932 and moved to Staten Island in 1962. He graduated from Alexander Hamilton High School and attended John Jay College of Criminal Justice. After serving as an Air Policeman in the US Air Force where he obtained the rank of Sargent, he enjoyed a distinguished 25-year career with the New York Police Department. He was assigned to the 19th Precinct in Manhattan and was also an Honor Guard as a member of the Ceremonial Unit.
In retirement, Joe spent many winters in Florida where he loved when his grandchildren visited. He often combed the beach for sharks’ teeth and shells which he carefully turned into Sailors Valentines. He was an avid craftsman who produced memorable stained glass pieces for friends and family. For many years, he also collected stamps, coins and open salts with his wife. In his spare time, he was an enthusiastic movie buff and an adept early adopter of the personal computer.
Joe was married to Margaret (“Peggy”) O’Neill for over 66 years. After starting their family in Brooklyn, they relocated to the Sunnyside area of Staten Island where they remained. He was predeceased by his son, Joseph Gabrielline. In addition to his loving wife, Joe is survived by his son Thomas Gabrielline (Jeanne) and daughter Joanne Frawley (Jim). Joe was a proud grandfather to Thomas and Christopher Gabrielline and Meaghan and James Frawley.
A visitation will be held on Wednesday, January 21, from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Harmon Funeral Home, 571 Forest Avenue, Staten Island, NY. A funeral service will take place at 10:30 a.m. at Harmon Funeral Home on Thursday, January 22.
