Joseph J. Grasso passed away at the age of 94 at home with his wife by his side. Joseph was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend. He was born and raised in Brooklyn and upstate New York. Joseph served in the United States Navy as a Seaman Second Class Radarman Striker on the USS General Harry Taylor AP 145.
He opened his own business Bayview Glass Shop, which he had until he went to work for the NYC Board of Education as a glazier for 25 years. He married Rita Daniello and they raised two children together, Michael and Ann. Joseph and Rita relocated to Staten Island in 1994 where he lived for 27 years. He loved fixing things for his family, friends, and neighbors. He also enjoyed playing the drums for church plays. He was a grandfather to six grandchildren and never missed a softball or baseball game. He was known at the field as the #1 fan. Joseph was also a great-grandfather to four great-grandchildren. His greatest love was spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. His grandchildren and great-grandchildren adored him.
Joseph is survived by his wife, Rita of 69 years, son Michael, daughter-in-law Lorraine, daughter Ann, son-in-law Mike, grandchildren Michele, Jennifer, Christine (her husband Vinny), Lisa, Michael, and Nicholas. Great-grandchildren Anthony, Matthew, Vincent, and Emma.
