STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. -- Longtime Great Kills resident Josephine Labasin, 83, a homemaker who enjoyed spending time with family, died Saturday in Staten Island University Hospital, Ocean Breeze.
Born Josephine Calanna in Brooklyn, she moved to Great Kills in 1976. She then relocated to Old Bridge, N.J., and Boynton Beach, Fla., before moving to the Park Lane at Sea View senior-living facility in 2009.
Mrs. Labasin enjoyed needlepoint embroidery and visits to Atlantic City.
She especially loved Sunday dinners with her family.
Mrs. Labasin was a devout Catholic, her family said.
Her husband of 31 years, Anthony, died in 2012.
She is survived by her son, John Garmendi; her daughters, Dina Assante and Joanne Vigilante; her sister, Maria Gallo; five grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be Tuesday from the Casey McCallum Rice South Shore Funeral Home, with a mass at 9:45 a.m. in St. Clare's R.C. Church, both Great Kills. Burial will follow in Resurrection Cemetery, Pleasant Plains.
