

Born Josephine Malta in Manhattan, she moved with her family to Bulls Head at age 2. She lived in New Dorp during her teen years and graduated from Manhattan High School and Wood Secretarial School, both in Manhattan.
She worked as a secretary for the Charles Allen Theatrical Agency at Rockefeller Center before her marriage.
She and James Nichetta met while he was home on emergency leave after his brother Joe's death during World War II. A friend of one of his sisters, she visited his home to pay her respects.
The couple married in 1948, and took up residence in Westerleigh. They also lived in New Brighton before moving to Sunnyside in 1960.
Mrs. Nichetta worked as a teller at the former Community National Bank, then as head teller for 30 years at Northfield Savings Bank, both in Sunnyside. She retired in 1986.
She was happiest when with her daughter and grandchildren.
Mrs. Nichetta was passionate about cooking and loved entertaining and hosting parties. She also enjoyed listening to country music.
She had traveled extensively, and her destinations included Hong Kong, Italy and Alaska.
Mrs. Nichetta was a parishioner of St. Teresa's R.C. Church, Castleton Corenrs, and also attended St. Sylvester's R.C. Church, Concord.
Surviving, along with James, her husband of 67 years, are her daughter, Janine Klewin, and two grandchildren.
The funeral will be Friday from the Casey Funeral Home, Castleton Corners, with a Mass at 10:45 a.m. in St. Teresa's Church. Entombment will follow in Woodbridge (N.J.) Memorial Gardens.
