

Born Julitta (also known as Litta) Lachenauer in New Dorp where her parents owned a German Delicatessen. She moved to Light House Hill in 1954 and Eltingville in 1963. In 1971 she moved to Great Kills where she spent the remainder of her life raising and caring for her family.
She graduated from the original New Dorp High School in 1961. Litta earned her B.S. Degree in Art Education from Pratt Institute in 1965, and in 1969 she was a member of the 1st graduating class of Richmond College, earning her Masters Degree in Elementary Education. She taught Fine Arts at I.S. 2 in Midland Beach from 1965 to 1988. She also taught Elementary Education at P.S. 42, P.S. 8 and P.S. 1. She retired in 1994.
She attended Gateway Cathedral and Eltingville Evangelical Free Church. She enjoyed traveling with her family, gardening, crafts, cooking, and animal care. Litta served on the Local Draft Board from 1997 through 2003. She was also an active member of Bob Zink’s “United For Wildlife” and a member of Staten Island Council for Animal Welfare.
Her husband, Nicholas, died in 1996. Her daughter, Jessica Earle, died in 2011. She is survived by her daughters, Nicole Ghazarian and Natasha DeMartino, and three grandsons, Ryan and William Tuite and Nicholas Ghazarian.
Funeral will be held at Casey McCallum-Rice South Shore Funeral Home (30 Nelson Ave. 10308) on Tuesday, August 17 from 2-4 and 7-9. Service will be held at the same location on Wednesday, August 18 at 11AM with the burial to follow at Moravian Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to the S.I. Council for Animal Welfare.
