Born and raised June L. Forrest in the Greenwich Village section of Manhattan, she graduated from Cathedral High School in her native borough.
In 1959, she moved to Castleton Corners, then relocated to Venice, Fla., in 1990. She returned to the Island in 2011, moving to Westerleigh.
Mrs. Hayden worked as an auditing supervisor at the former Chemical Bank in Manhattan, leaving the workforce to become a homemaker.
She was a member of the Women's Lions Club.
She enjoyed time with family, especially trips to the family home on Long Beach Island. She also enjoyed travel, including trips to Alaska and Europe, and Caribbean cruises. But her favorite pastime was being a doting grandmother who treasured the time spent with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Mrs. Hayden never had anything negative to say about others. Her motto was, "If you don't have anything nice to say, don't say anything at all."
She was a longtime parishioner of St. Teresa's R.C. Church, Castleton Corners, where she belonged to the Mother's Guild.
She is survived by her husband of 66 years, Patrick; her son, Patrick; her daughters, Barbara Burns and Diane Pessolano; her sister, Babs O'Loughlin; nine grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be Monday from the Casey Funeral Home, with a mass at 9:30 a.m. in St. Teresa's Church, both in Castleton Corners. Burial will follow in Moravian Cemetery, New Dorp.
