

Katherine A. Markowski, 90, of Edison, N.J., a homemaker and former customer service representative who was the matriarch of three generations, died Friday in Brighton Gardens of Edison Assisted Living.
She was born Katherine Polacek in Barnesboro, Pa. Mrs. Markowski grew up in Travis, and was proud to be part of the borough's most patriotic neighborhood. Though the years, she saved paper umbrella souvenirs from past Fourth of July parades which she then passed onto her family.
In 1952, she moved to Castleton Corners and was a resident there until 2005, when she relocated to Edison.
She graduated from Port Richmond High School.
Primarily a homemaker, she worked at Metropolitan Life Insurance in Rosebank, for 13 years until 1982.
She was a member of the American Association of Retired Persons.
She enjoyed playing bingo and visiting Atlantic City. But her favorite pastime was attending family gatherings and baby-sitting.
She was a parishioner of St. Rita's R.C. Church, Meiers Corners, where she belonged to the Mothers Guild and Ladies Auxiliary.
Edward her husband 55 years, died in 2003.
She is survived by her sons, Joseph and Edward; her daughters, Katherine Ryan and Laura Allen; 12 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be Wednesday from the Casey Funeral Home, Castleton Corners, with a mass at 10 a.m. in St. Rita's Church. Burial will follow in Moravian Cemetery, New Dorp.
