Kathleen A. Denmark

Kathleen Denmark (née Moran), a beloved mother, wife, sister, mother-in-law, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend, passed away peacefully on September 2, 2026, at Seaview Nursing Home, surrounded by the family who loved and cherished her. She was 74 years old.

Kathleen was born on November 3, 1951, in Brooklyn, New York, to James Moran and Elizabeth Moran (née Montgomery). A first-generation American, Kathleen was born and raised in Brooklyn, where she remained until the 1980s, when she moved to Staten Island and began a new chapter of her life, building a home and creating many wonderful memories with her family.

Kathleen graduated with honors from St. Joseph High School in Downtown Brooklyn. Throughout her life, she had a passion for helping anyone in need, a quality that was evident in her many years of working with children and adults with disabilities. She was a fierce and compassionate advocate for the individuals she served, always ensuring they were treated with dignity, respect, and love.

Kathleen began this work at The Guild for Exceptional Children in Brooklyn and continued her calling at On Your Mark, Inc. in Staten Island. At On Your Mark, she served as Residence Manager of the DeKay House before being promoted to Assistant Residential Director and later becoming Assistant Director of Human Resources.

While her responsibilities and titles changed over the years, Kathleen’s heart always remained with her “kids” at the DeKay House. They became her family away from home, and her dedication to them reflected the kind of person she was.

Beyond any job title, Kathy had a kind and generous heart, much like her mother, Elizabeth. She never wanted anyone to feel alone, particularly during the holidays. If someone needed a place to go, Kathy made sure there was a place for them at her table. She had a way of making people feel welcomed, loved, and included, and her home was a place where family extended far beyond blood.

In November 1984, Kathleen married her loving husband, John Denmark. Together, Kathleen and John shared more than four decades of marriage filled with family, travel, laughter, and memories.

Kathy loved taking trips with John, whether traveling to Florida, going on cruises, visiting family in Ireland, or simply heading out to Long Island to spend time with two of her nearest and dearest friends. Her love of dolphins and horses was more than just an interest—she experienced the joy of swimming with dolphins and going horseback riding.

At home, some of Kathleen’s happiest moments were often the simplest ones. She loved settling in with a good book while floating in the pool, spending time with her dog, Mocha, or quietly enjoying the pond fish in her yard.

But perhaps nothing meant more to Kathleen than time spent with her family.

Sunday was family time, when everyone would gather at her home for dinner, great laughs, Irish music, and, every once in a while, some spontaneous Irish dancing simply because the mood struck. And then there were what Kathy affectionately called the “Moran Family Outings”—any family gathering or adventure that, almost inevitably, managed to go sideways in the best possible way. Plans might not unfold exactly as intended, but there would always be a story to tell afterward, and usually plenty of laughter to go with it. It was a phrase that captured something Kathy knew well: with her family, the unexpected was often part of the fun.

These were the moments Kathleen treasured most. Above all else, her family was her everything, and she cherished each and every one of them.

Kathleen is survived by her loving husband, John Denmark; her daughter, Erica Curtin (née Ericson), and her husband, Timothy Curtin Sr.; her son, Ryan Denmark, and his wife, Kimberley Denmark; her brother, Daniel Moran, whom she lovingly referred to as “Donkey”; and her sister, “Marvelous” Marie Moran.

She is also survived by her grandchildren, Timothy Curtin Jr. and his fiancée, Christina Cracchiolo, Bridget Curtin, Bianca Rodriguez, and Olivia Denmark; her great-grandson, Atlas Struthers; as well as many beloved cousins, extended family members, and friends.

Kathleen was predeceased by her parents, James Moran and Elizabeth Moran; her stepfather, Joseph Casey; and her beloved granddaughter, Isabella Denmark, whom she now joins in eternal rest.

Kathleen was an extraordinary daughter, sister, wife, mother, mother-in-law, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend. Her kindness, generosity, compassion, and devotion to others touched countless lives. Whether she was advocating for the individuals she served, opening her home to someone who needed a family, traveling with John, enjoying a quiet afternoon by the pool, or filling her home with food, laughter, Irish music, and family on a Sunday, Kathleen gave those around her something they will carry forever.

Her passing leaves an immeasurable void in the lives of those who knew and loved her, but the life she lived, the people she helped, the traditions she created, and the love she gave so freely will continue through her family for generations to come.

Kathleen will be deeply missed and forever loved.
