

After a courageous nine-year battle with cancer, Laura Joan Konczynski (née Finley) passed peacefully at her home in Staten Island, NY, on May 16, 2025, surrounded by the warmth and love of her family. She was 67.
Laura was born on October 19, 1957, in Staten Island, New York, to the late Joan Hutchinson and Edward Finley. She graduated from Notre Dame Academy High School and earned her bachelor’s degree from West Virginia University.
Laura’s life centered around her family, who were always her greatest source of joy and pride. She married the love of her life, Joe Konczynski, and together they shared 40 wonderful years of marriage, raising two devoted sons, Joseph and Thomas. Laura cherished every moment spent with her family, especially with her beloved grandson, Tommy. She had a special love for traveling to Grenada, a destination close to her heart, where many cherished family memories were created.
Laura often described herself as a “true warrior,” demonstrating unmatched strength, courage, and determination throughout her life, particularly during her long journey with cancer. A natural leader, Laura took charge of every aspect of her life, approaching each challenge with grace, dignity, and unwavering positivity. Her warmth, kindness, and leadership qualities left an enduring impact on all who knew her.
Laura was an auxiliary member of the VFW Post 7172, proudly supporting veterans and contributing to her community. She was also an amazing baker, carrying on traditions passed down from generations before her, a gift she lovingly shared and taught to her children.
Laura is survived by her devoted husband Joe; her son Joseph and his wife Lauren; her son Thomas, his wife Nicole, and their son Tommy; her brother Michael Finley and his wife Lindyll; her mother-in-law Gail Konczynski; her beloved dog, Layla; and many cousins, nieces, and nephews. She is predeceased by her parents Joan Hutchinson and Edward Finley, her brother Robert Finley, and her father-in-law Joseph Konczynski.
Laura’s legacy of love, courage, and dedication to family will forever inspire those she leaves behind. Her family expresses sincere gratitude for the outpouring of love, support, and compassion shown during this time.
