Lester Allen Squires, Sr., 83 years old departed this life January 18, 2019. He was a loving and caring son, husband, brother, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He was born April 18, 1935 in Center Moriches, Long Island to Gladys Naomi King Squires and David Pioneer Squires. Raised in Brooklyn, NY he moved to Staten Island with his family in 1964. His parents, siblings - David, Kenneth, Harold and Leroy, all preceded him in death as well as his daughter Robin Dale. He leaves to mourn in profound sorrow his adoring wife Sonya, his children Deborah Watson, Lester Squires, Jr., Janine Squires and Christine (Tina) Alexander, son-in-laws William (Sonny) Watson and O’Byrne Waithe, daughter-in-law Diane Squires, sisters-in-law Nadine Brown, Shirley Vega and Edina Smith, his ten grandchildren and seventeen great-grandchildren, who were the apple of his eye, and a host of nieces and nephews.
Lester was employed by the New York City Transit Authority for 25 years and retired in 1987 as a Track Supervisor. He was responsible for supervision of restructuring and laying the tracks on the Williamsburg Bridge. In his youth he loved to play sports, he played for the Gem Blades baseball team in Brooklyn and was an avid handball player. He enjoyed playing chess and board games. Playing cards like Bid Whist, spades and pinochle while listening to jazz and oldies were always good times and would bring smiles and the telling of jokes.
Lester touched the lives of many and was loved by many and will be truly missed.
