

Lisa Ann Tarter, 63, passed away on March 12, 2026 at Staten Island Hospital South after a long illness. She was a native Staten Islander, living in Great Kills and born on April 12, 1962 at St. Vincent’s Hospital.
Lisa is survived by her mother, Margaret, her sister Carolyn Sanders and brother-in-law, John and her brother John and sister-in law, Patty. She is also survived by her nieces, Kaitlin Tarter and Emily Syrdale and nephew, Ben Syrdale, thirteen cousins and her lifelong friends, Todd and Zora Syrdale, who became her family. A big part of her live were here aides, Tatyana Ehrlich 25 years and Maria Leyton, 15 years. Many Many Thanks to Lisa’s nurses and therapist, Linda, Karen, Victoria and Mona for their wonderful care, kindness, warmth and friendship. Her pets, Max and Lacey filled her with joy
Lisa graduated from St. Joseph by the Sea High School and attended St. John’s University. Lisa was employed by St. Vincent’s Hospital and CIGNA Insurance Company. She was a member of St. Clare Church and part of the Folk Group at Masses in the 70s. She was a member of the Great Kills Little League when they began to accept girls. Lisa excelled as a catcher. She was a member of the Girl Scouts until her senior level. She was a member of the Staten Island Sclerosis Group for over 20 years. She volunteered along with her father at Staten Island Hospital at the TBI unit where she spent 6 months in recovery.
Lisa loved music and played the cello, piano and guitar and found great happiness in teaching young children how to play the guitar. She was a very talented person who crocheted and knitted many beautiful things for family and friends. Her biggest pleasure was the New York Yankees and she watched every game and had a massive collection of Yankee memorabilia. Her great pleasure was going to the Staten Island Yankees games and mourned their closing.
After the accident, which greatly changed her life, she still managed to smile and whenever a doctor or therapist suggested a new treatment, she always said “I’ll give it a shot” and she certainly did.
