Born Lorraine Benitez in Manhattan, she moved with her family as an infant to Rossville and graduated from Tottenville High School.
After she and Richard Schindler married in 1946, the couple settled in Great Kills.
Mrs. Schindler was a secretary for 20 years for S.S. White Dental Manufacturing Co., first at its former plant in Prince's Bay, and then at its location in Holmdel, N.J.
She was fond of cats, loved to read and enjoyed traveling.
Mrs. Schindler was a parishioner of St. Clare's R.C. Church, Great Kills.
Richard, her husband of 44 years, died in 1990.
Surviving are her son, Richard; her daughter, Karen A. Cuyar; her brother, Ronald Benitez, and her sister, Arline Torocco.
The funeral will be Tuesday from the Casey McCallum Rice South Shore Funeral Home, Great Kills, with a mass at 9:45 a.m. in St. Clare's Church. Burial will follow in Resurrection Cemetery, Pleasant Plains.
