The lifelong Staten Islander was born Lucia Buono in West Brighton. She later settled in Todt Hill.
She graduated from Curtis High School in 1939.
Mrs. Pugnetti was a dietary aide for the former city Board of Education for 20 years, working at several schools on the Island. She retired in 1978.
She was a longtime supporter of the Deborah Heart and Lung Center, Browns Mills, N.J., and a member of St. Charles Mission Center's Ladies Guild, Dongan Hills.
Mrs. Pugnetti enjoyed visiting her family in Italy. She also liked traveling and had been to Hawaii, Las Vegas and Florida, and going on Caribbean cruises, with voyages to St. Lucia a favorite. She was fond of visits to Atlantic City and enjoyed reading, solving word puzzles and dining out.
"My mom was my best friend, my anchor and my strength. She loved the warmth of the sun, the sound of the ocean," said her daughter, Frances Valenzo. "She was kindhearted, loving, compassionate and always happy. Her outlook on life was admirable."
Mrs. Pugnetti was a longtime parishioner of St. Teresa's R.C. Church, Castleton Corners.
Her husband of 46 years, Thomas, died in 1990.
Surviving, along with her daughter, Frances, is her grandson.
The funeral will be Friday from the Casey Funeral Home, Castleton Corners, with a mass at 10:45 a.m. in St. Teresa's Church. Burial will follow in St. Peter's Cemetery, West Brighton.
