Luciana Maria O’Neal, II was granted her angel wings on August 22, 2019. Her final days were spent surrounded by family and friends for whom Luciana touched in some small way throughout her short, yet very memorable life.

At 13 years old, Luciana was born on February 20, 2006. Luciana’s life would seem too short to many, but those who were touched by her understand that the quality of her existence far exceeded the quantity of time in which she lived. Her infectious laugh, her raspy little voice, her sass, her grace, thoughtfulness and kindness brought so much joy to those who knew her.

Luciana attended Sacred Heart School in Staten Island. She was just about to enter the 7th grade before her untimely death. Due to her love of basketball, Luciana played for the Sacred Heart Basketball team. She was also a member of the Staten Island Bulldogs travel basketball team. She enjoyed music, dancing and drawing. She was already enthusiastic about attending Moore Catholic High School and moving on studying computer coding and archeology at Smith College. Luciana devised this plan after a campus tour to Smith College in Massachusetts.

Luciana is survived by her loving parents, Eric O’Neal and Luciana Squillante-O’Neal; her 5 sisters Diamond, Trinity, Isis, Ororo and London; her brother, Eric O’Neal, Jr.; her grandmothers, Patsy Butta and Clementine O’Neal, her aunts, Leslie O’Neal, Kelley O’Neal, Barbara Butta Smalls and Tina Fleming, and an army of cousins, friends and teammates. She will be dearly missed.

Afterglow I’d like the memory of me to be a happy one, I’d like to leave an afterglow of smiles when life is done. I’d like to leave an echo whispering softly down the ways, of happy times and laughing times and bright and sunny days. I’d like the tears of those who grieve, to dry before the sun of happy memories that I leave behind when day is done.

I'm sorry to hear about your loss. While words fail to capture the pain of losing a loved one, we look forward to the time when words will fail to capture the joy you will experience when God returns your dear one to you.
