Margaret Hicks, age 56, died suddenly at home on April 8, 2024. A loving daughter of the late George and Jeanette (McDonnell) Hicks, she was born and raised in Staten Island, NY. After graduating from Susan Wagner High School, Margaret always willingly worked hard to provide for herself and her loved ones. She was proud of earning her certification to teach Driver’s Education and her CDL certification. She prepared many young people and adults to earn their driver’s license and begin a lifetime of safe driving. As a NYCDOE certified bus driver, she especially loved her job as a school bus driver for special needs students, and was very patient and caring with her young passengers. Life often held many challenges and difficulties for Margaret, but she had a strong faith in God, and would pray the Rosary twice each day for the needs of her family and friends, never for herself.
Margaret is survived by her brother, John, and Aunts Maryann, Jenny and Debi. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews, for whom she always had a special place in her heart. She had many friends, and especially appreciated the friendship she shared with her coworker, Virginia Ambio, and with her longtime friend and mentor, whom she affectionately called “Mrs.T”.
A Memorial Mass will take place on Saturday, May 4 at 10am at Church of the Blessed Sacrament, Staten Island.
To honor Margaret’s loving and caring heart, consider performing a special act of kindness for someone in need. Rest in heavenly peace, dear Margaret!
