Margaret Palma (nee Ryan) was born and raised in West Brighton and graduated from

St. Peter’s High School for girls. She then attended the American Institute of Banking, Manhattan, N.Y. She was employed by Irving Trust from 1948-1956. Later in life she attended S.I. Community College.

Margaret, known as Peggie, married in 1954, lived in Castleton Corners until 1959, Pt. Richmond Center until 1970 and then Westerleigh. For twenty-two years she enjoyed a second home at the Jersey shore. After the death of her husband she lived in East Quogue, N.Y. with her daughter Shelagh.

She was a homemaker who was proud of her Irish heritage making two trips to Ireland where she viewed her mother’s birth home. Enjoying travel she visited Bermuda, Alaska, the Panama Canal, Italy and the Southwest U.S. on a car trip. She was a three time cancer survivor who enjoyed tending her vegetable garden, oil painting, and needle pointing.

Her strong faith helped her when her twenty-one year old son, Terence, was tragically killed in an automobile accident. She is survived by daughters Shelagh Zegers and Daurene Palma, sons-in-law Michael Zegers and David Torres, the late Terence Palma and her husband of sixty-two years, the late Raymond L. Palma.

Due to the pandemic, a funeral Mass will be scheduled in the future at Blessed Sacrament R.C. Church of Staten Island, NY.

In lieu of flowers, etc., the family requests she be remembered through donations made to the East End Hospice, Westhampton Beach, NY, which greatly helped her and us in her final days.
