It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Marguerite Rose Paulo-Heyer, our loving and devoted daughter, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt, niece, and friend to all those whose lives she touched. Marguerite left us on October 6, 2025, while resting peacefully at her daughter and son-in-law, Jack & Leslie Casey's, home in Atlantic Highlands, NJ. She was 91.
Born on Chestnut Avenue in Rosebank in 1934, she attended Public School 13, New Dorp HS, and The College of Staten Island, where she received a Bachelor of Arts degree in Education and a Master's degree in Psychology. Following high school, Marguerite worked as a switchboard operator for Metropolitan Life Insurance Company in Manhattan. In 1963, she married William R. Heyer and moved to St. George, where they were blessed with four daughters. In 1977, Marguerite returned to work at the Staten Island Continuum of Education, a non-profit organization located on Stuyvesant Place. Simultaneously, Marguerite pursued her college and graduate degrees in Education and Psychology to fulfill her life's work and passion to help others. In 1992, she was hired by the New York City Department of Education, where she worked at Fort Hamilton HS in Bay Ridge, Brooklyn, as a Special Education Guidance Counselor. Marguerite retired in 2002 from Fort Hamilton HS, but continued to work periodically as a Real Estate Agent with Weichert & DeFalco Realty.
In addition to her career success, Marguerite was a member of the prestigious Alpha Beta Chapter of the Delta Kappa Gamma Society. Founded in 1929, the Delta Kappa Gamma Society is intended to improve opportunities for women employed in education and to advance the status of women educators. For many years, Marguerite also sat as a policy board member at Mount Manresa on Staten Island.
Devoted to her Catholic faith, Marguerite attended mass (often daily) at St. Joseph Parish in Rosebank. After marrying, she continued to practice her unwavering faith at St. Peter's Parish in St. George. Once retiring to the Shore Acres neighborhood, Marguerite attended St. Mary's Parish until its closing, after which she returned to her childhood parish, St. Joseph.
Marguerite Paulo-Heyer was a beloved mother/mother-in-law to Christine M. Spuehler (Heyer), Terese A. Mckenna (Heyer), Pamela E. Santore (Heyer)/Francis X. Santore III, and Leslie C. Casey (Heyer)/Jack Casey. She was a proud grandmother to Timothy D. Heyer, Kennedy A. Mckenna, Lindsay Mckenna, Christian Mckenna, Francis X. Santore IV, Renata C. Santore, Giovanni W. Santore, Mia C. Santore, Kaitlyn R. Casey, and Alexandra C. Casey, and a doting great-grandmother to seven great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband, William R. Heyer, parents Dominick J. Paulo and Cecelia V. Paulo (Tuzzo), brother Dr. Daniel J. Paulo, and uncle Honorable Frank D. Paulo.
Marguerite was an exceptional example of strength and positivity. She instilled in her children and grandchildren the strong values of love, faith, respect, and honor, among countless others. An inspiration to all who knew her, she will be dearly missed and forever in our hearts.
