Maria Mazzone

Maria Mazzone (née Del Giudice) passed away peacefully in her home on Tuesday, August 25, 2026 at the beautiful age of 91. Maria is survived by her loving son, Peter, her daughter-in-law, Millie, her granddaughter, Marisa and her husband, Marcus Maimone, her grandsons, Michael and Vincent Mazzone and her great-grandchildren, Sofia and Luca Maimone.

Maria was born in the small town of Senerchia, in the province of Avellino, Italy to Attilio and Michelina (née Esposito) Del Giudice. She was born into a loving family and was predeceased by her parents, her two sisters and her brother. Maria married her husband of 75 years, Teodoro “Teddy” Mazzone in 1951 and they had their only son, Peter, a year later. Maria and her family immigrated to the United States in 1954 and resided in Hell’s Kitchen where Maria worked tirelessly as a seamstress. She was praised for meticulous work and dedication to her craft, resulting in promotions and management offerings. Maria moved with Teddy and Peter to South Beach on Staten Island in 1976 and lived in the same house for 50 years, where she could always be found tending to her garden until her later years. In 1984, she began to work at her son’s business, Camelot Deli, as a chef that created food that would sell out daily. Maria was known for her delicious, authentic cooking that made Camelot Deli thrive and customers come flocking to indulge in. Lovingly referred to as either “Mama” or “Shorty” due to her petite frame, Maria was adored by all and filled hearts and stomachs with her love of cooking.,

Once Maria fully retired from Camelot, her days were spent tending her immaculate garden. She cultivated a 100 square foot property that produced everything from tomatoes and basil to corn and watermelon. Gardening brought her peace, joy and a hobby that required tenderness, care and love. The only aspect of her life that brought her more joy was her family. Maria lived for her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. You could always feel her smiling through the phone whenever she heard their voices and she lit up when any of them walked into the room. She loved them more than she could express, although there was always a lifelong goal for each of them to be considered her “favorite” and their picture placed in the golden locket she wore everyday.

Maria was the epitome of true Catholic faith and a deep and resounding belief in God. She immersed herself as a parishioner of Holy Rosary Church and once she could no longer attend mass in person, she would watch daily mass at home in whatever language was available. While Maria faced struggles most could not fathom in her unbelievable life, she always believed that God had a plan and was unconditionally devoted to Him. Maria was unequivocally a pillar of strength and unconditional love that she so miraculously extended to her family. She will be deeply missed, forever remembered and lovingly held in the hearts of her family, friends, customers and all who had the privilege of knowing her.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, August 27, 2026 from 2 PM to 8 PM at Casey Funeral Home, 350 Slosson Avenue Staten Island, New York. Her funeral will take place on Friday, August 28 2026 at 9:30 AM at Holy Rosary Church, 80 Jerome Avenue Staten Island, New York.
