Marie Capone, born June 21, 1939, was the daughter of the late Tony Cotroneo and Katie Cotroneo. She met John Capone when she was 12, who was then and always her brother Lou’s best friend. Years later the two started dating, and eventually married, having two children together.
They started their family in Brooklyn, where she raised her children, John and Kathy, with her husband John. They later moved to Staten Island, where the two of them created a loving home for their family of four. Marie was a trained pianist who gave lessons in her home to local children, as well as tutoring in the schools. She went back to school as an adult and received her degree, which led to her becoming the Executive Administrator to the Director of Lloyd’s Bank International, an accomplishment she was especially proud of.
Marie had a ferocious spirit. Her family was her life. So was her passion for celebration. She loved to host her children and grandchildren for the holidays and her home was always filled with love and laughter. She also loved to go out, whether it was a night out at dinner, relaxing at the beach, or a weekend in Atlantic City playing the slots.
Marie was a curious and loyal listener. When you spent time with her, she wanted to know what was going on in your life, what made you happy, and what you were striving for. She demanded more of you with the way she cared and through her compassion. Her voice had a way of calming you and brightening your day, and she was never more than a phone call away. Her smile was contagious, and her laugh filled every room she was in.
Marie was predeceased by husband, John Capone, her parents, Tony Cotroneo and Katie Cotroneo, and her brother, Lou Cotroneo. She is survived by her two children, John Capone (Danielle Capone) and Kathy Capone Marie (Michael Marie), her grandchildren Michael (Anna), Matthew (Rose), John (Alison), Victoria (AJ), John, Nicole, and her great grandchildren Luca, Tony, and Viviana. She is also survived by her long time companion of 23 years, Michael Yonts.
