Marie Claire Charles was born in Port-au-Prince Haiti on August 12, 1928, the youngest of 7 children born to Alphonsine Jean-Francois and Justin Charles. As the only surviving sibling for the past 25 years, “Tatie Kekette” became the corner stone and a source of great strength and comfort to her extended family.
After completing secondary school at St Rose De Lima, Marie Claire obtained her Law degree and attended the Hautes Etudes Internationales in Port-au-Prince where she studied Banking and Economics. She traveled to Spain and Puerto Rico on a scholarship to further her studies in International Banking and Economics. Marie Claire worked in banking for more than 40 years, both in Haiti and in the US; she was a Controller at Bradesco Bank New York until her retirement in 1996.
Marie Claire was a very religious and devoted catholic who strongly believed in the power of prayer and participated in several ministries in the church. She also loved to travel, especially to pilgrimage sites. She was an avid reader who enjoyed discussing current events and politics.
