

Raised in the vibrant East Village of New York City, Marie spent her formative years on 1st Street across from Katz's Delicatessen, before moving to 2nd Street on the east side. She made her First Communion and Confirmation at St. Anthony Church, located between Thompson and Houston Streets, near her grandmother's residence. Marie attended PS 63 and graduated from Central Needle High School on Madison Avenue in 1943.
During World War II, Marie contributed to the war effort by sewing Navy insignias for uniforms, demonstrating her dedication and patriotism. In October of 1956, she moved to Oakwood, Staten Island, where she continued to enrich the lives of those around her with her warmth and incredible culinary skills.
Marie was predeceased by her beloved husband, Frank, a World War II veteran, in 1985. She is survived by her two children, Ann Marie Montana and Mark Montana, his wife, Lisa, and four grandchildren: Gina Giaimo, Jeffrey Montana, Christopher Montana, and Steven Montana. Her legacy continues through her five great-grandchildren: Ciara, Alessandra, Giovanna, Nicolette, and Scarlette.
A visitation for Marie will be held on Tuesday, June 25, 2024, from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Casey-McCallum Rice Funeral Home, located at 30 Nelson Avenue, Staten Island, NY 10308. A funeral service will take place on Wednesday, June 26, 2024, from 10:15 AM to 11:15 AM at St. Charles Roman Catholic Church, 644 Clawson St, New York, NY 10306. The committal service will follow at 11:30 AM in Moravian Cemetery, 2205 Richmond Rd, New York, NY 10306.
Marie will be dearly missed by her family, friends, and all who knew her. Her memory will live on in the hearts of those she touched with her kindness, love, and dedication.
In lieu of flowers, contributions and donations in memory of Marie can be made to Saint Jude Children's Hospital.
