He is also survived by his two loving daughters, Jaclyn Mary and GinaMarie Benson; his parents, James and Katherine Benson; and his three sisters, Donna Salvatore and sister in-law Toni, Mary Virga and brother in-law Greg and Jill Benson. He will also be remembered by his brother in-law and sister in-law James and Ann Johnson. He will fondly be remembered by his nieces and nephews, Emily, Ryan, Jake, Kaleigh, Lili, James and Jillian. Mark, a West Brighton native, attended PS 45 and IS 61, and graduated Curtis High School with the Class of 1982. He earned his bachelor's degree at Baruch College in 1986. Mark spent over 36 years building his career at Guy Carpenter & Co., a subsidiary of Marsh & McLennan Companies, where he worked as Vice President. Mark's survival of the 1993 WTC bombing predetermined his heroic efforts during 9/11. During that crisis, he helped his co-workers escape the ill-fated South Tower. Mark was a parishioner at Blessed Sacrament Church and former member of the Holy Name Society. Perhaps Mark's greatest accomplishment was his relationship with Denise, whom he met when he was just 16 years-old. Mark enjoyed his annual vacations to LBI with family and friends, where he would go to Irish Night and enjoyed singing Irish songs especially "Sweet Caroline." His other loves included all things New York, like the Giants, Mets and Rangers. The services will be held at Casey Funeral Home on Slosson Avenue on Wednesday from 4 to 8 p.m. Mass is 10 a.m. Thursday at Blessed Sacrament Church. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.

Dear Kathy and Jimmy and family,
It is with a very heavy heart that I write this to you. I am remembering the days of long ago when our kids celebrated birthdays together and played together. Mark left much too soon . There was so much more ahead of him to enjoy with you and his beautiful family. I am at a loss for words , but please know my prayers , love, sympathy and friendship are with you.
May your beautiful memories bring you some peace and comfort during this very difficult time.
I am here for you always my dearest friends.
All my love,

I was quite fortunate to work for Mark a number of years back, and by fortunate, as many of my colleagues heard repeatedly, what I actually mean is that I LOVED working for Mark - How could I have loved my boss? … Mark made it so easy … During a time in which much of the business world still strictly adhered to rank and file, there was no such concept under Mark. He was entirely humble in his insights and perhaps unknowingly, helped instill professional and moral values that continue to guide me on a daily basis 13 years later! On a personal note to Mark’s daughters, Jaclyn and Gina, I lost my Dad when he was just 56, so I truly feel for the enormity of your premature loss of such a remarkable Father who not only spoke but acted with unconditional love for his family, friends and family of colleagues. Deepest condolences to Denise and the entire family … We will all miss Him so very much!

I have know Mark for over 40 years. We survived 2 WTC bombings together and many ups and downs at work over the years. He was a very religious person, and a very dedicated husband and father; his family was his whole life. We walked together almost everyday and if people saw me without him or vice versa they would say where is your partner today. Although he was very proud to be Irish, he had Italian in him too. I even got him to make homemade wine 1 year. I would wish him a Happy Saint Patrick's Day and he would wish me a Happy Saint Joseph's Day ever year. He watch the Godfather and Sopranos as many times as I did. He had an excellent memory and remembered birthdays and names of everybody we ever worked with. He will be truly missed by me and all that knew him. God bless him on his trip to heaven.
My prayers are with him and his family.

I was so shocked and saddened to hear the passing of Mark.
Mark was my supervisor for 3 years. He was a friend and colleague who was always willing to help. He was very approachable and down to earth kind of person. He has a deep faith in God.

My deepest sympathy to Denise, Jaclyn and Gina.

Eternal Rest Grant Unto Mark O Lord, and Let Perpetual Light Shine Upon Him. May his soul Rest in Peace. Amen

My deepest condolences to Mark's family, especially his wife & daughters. This is so heartbreaking. Mark was always pleasant in the office. He always said Good Morning and having a conversation with him was very easy. We often talked about vacation. We seemed to go on similar vacations with our families, including Long Beach Island , NJ and Hershey Park. Sending love and prayers to the entire family. May you rest in eternal peace, Mark.
