Mary Cochran, 101, of Staten Island, NY passed away peacefully at her home on June 10, 2023, surrounded by her loving family. Mary was born May 29, 1922 in Brooklyn, NY. She was one of three children of Charles and Josephine Curry.
A woman who epitomized the “Greatest Generation,” Mary was married to her husband, Master Sergeant Francis J. Cochran (USMC) (d. 1994), on April 7, 1951. Her devotion to her husband’s service in the US Marine Corp. led to extensive relocations and homes throughout the country including Quantico, Virginia, Manassas, VA, Laurel Bay, SC, Camp Lejeune, NC. Settling eventually in Staten Island on Perry Avenue in Manor Heights, Mary raised her three children, Maureen, John and Helen. Mary lived a life devoted to prayer and Catholicism and lived out the Catholic traditions by giving so much of her life to dedicated community service through volunteerism with organizations such as Ladies of Fleet Reserve Association, St. Vincent’s Hospital, Meals on Wheels, Alzheimer’s Foundation and the Church of St. Rita. Above all, her family will remember her for always being there and she always going with the flow and making the best of every situation. Her family will always remember her for her sweet hugs and letting them make a mess in her kitchen every Christmas to make her famous Christmas cookies.
