Born Mary Benedict in Port Richmond, she settled in Westerleigh in 1972.
Mrs. Sypniewski worked as a registered nurse throughout her life, and was also a nursing instructor at St. Vincent’s School of Nursing.
She was a member of the Varsity Club on Staten Island
Mrs. Sypniewski was a parishioner of Holy Family R.C. Church, Westerleigh.
In her leisure time, she enjoyed shopping, traveling and trips to the beach. She especially loved spending time with her grandchildren.
Her husband, John, died in 1997.
Surviving are a son, Stephen; a daughter, Deborrah; a sister, Geraldine Hacker, and two grandchildren.
The funeral will be Saturday from the Casey Funeral Home, Castleton Corners, with a mass at 9:15 a.m. in Holy Family Church. Arrangements include cremation.
