STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. -- Maureen Ann (Moe) Ryan, 55, of Westerleigh, an X-ray technician who enjoyed close family relationships and will be remembered as full of life, died Friday in New York Presbyterian Hospital, Manhattan, after a brief illness.
Born Maureen Riordan in New Brighton, she grew up in Castleton Corners. She settled in Westerleigh in 1995.
A St. Joseph Hill Academy graduate, she earned a bachelor's degree in criminal science from Pennsylvania State University and was a loyal fan of their football team. She later earned a degree in radiologic technology from Bayonne Hospital.
Mrs. Ryan began her career as a legal secretary for a Manhattan law firm. She worked as a radiology technician at Staten Island Physician Practice in Sunnyside for 20 years.
She shared close relationships with her nieces and nephews. Always arriving with camera in hand, she enjoyed taking photos so that she could create calendars for them. An inside family joke was, "Is this photo 'calendar worthy?'"
Mrs. Ryan also enjoyed visiting her vacation home in the Poconos and spending time with family.
She was fond of animals and loved her two pet Labradors, Rudy and Molly.
She had the ability to light up a room, family said. Her warmth and generosity will be deeply missed, they said.
Mrs. Ryan is survived by her husband of 27 years, Kevin Sr., her stepson, Kevin Jr. and her brother, Raymond Riordan.
The funeral will be Monday from the Casey Funeral Home, with a Mass at 10:45 a.m. in St. Teresa's R.C. Church, both in Castleton Corners. Burial will be in St. Peter's Cemetery, West Brighton.
