Maureen Young (nee Kelly) was born in 1931 in New Brighton. She graduated from St Peter's High School and Notre Dame College in 1951. She worked for Grace Line in Manhattan before meeting and marrying Carl Young in 1956. The couple resided in Dongan Hills.
They moved to Wheaton, Ill., and Mountain Brook, Ala., before settling in Westfield, N.J. Maureen was a member of the parish council at St. Helen's Church in Westfield. She worked as an auditor with the Internal Revenue Service in Mountainside and Newark, N.J. She lived in Manalapan and Sea Bright with her husband before his death in 2002. She finally relocated to the west side of Manhattan where she resided at the time of her death. Maureen was an avid reader.
Maureen is survived by her brother, William Kelly and his wife, Helen; her sister, Sheila Mulligan Kane; her children and their spouses, Carl Young and Michael Putis, Patrick and Diane Young, Mary Anne and Patrick Hinton, Beth and Ralph Rotella, Michael Young and Maxie Santiago-Young, and Sheila and Joe Golden, and her grandchildren, William, Nicholas and Erin Young, Richard and Jake Rotella, and Joseph and Sydney Golden.
Viewing is Thursday, from 7 to 9 p.m. and Friday, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at Harmon Funeral Home. Mass is Saturday at St. Peter's Church at 10 a.m. Interment is in St. Peter's Cemetery.
