

Born on November 14, 1955, in New York, New York, Melvin was the son of the late Henry and Jenny Gomez. He spent much of his life in New York City, as a resident of Red Hook and Park Slope, Brooklyn, before making his home in the Grasmere neighborhood of Staten Island, where he lived for many years.
Melvin built a long and respected career as a painter and retired as a member of DC 9. He was known for his strong work ethic, dedication to his craft, and the friendships he formed throughout his career.
Above all else, Melvin was devoted to his family. He is survived by his loving wife, Lorraine Gomez; his daughter, Chiara Lane, and daughter-in-law, Ann Marie Lane; his son, Ricardo Gomez, and daughter-in-law, Jayne Gomez; and his cherished grandchildren, Mackenzie and Connor Lane, and Mazy Gomez, who brought him endless joy and pride.
He is also survived by his brothers, Henry and his wife, Anita Gomez, and Impy Gomez; his mother-in-law, Myriam Medina; his father-in-law, Peter Perez and his wife Carmen; his sisters-in-law, Miriam Perez and Georgina Garces; his brother-in-law, Crane Rodriguez, and his wife, Martha; his nieces Doris Gomez and Aubrey Rugel; and his nephews, Alfred Rugel and his wife, Faith Rivera, Jose Natal, Evan Rodriguez, and Alfredo Gomez, along with many other relatives and friends who will miss him dearly.
Melvin was a passionate New York sports fan who faithfully supported the New York Knicks and the New York Mets through every season. He enjoyed sharing games with family and friends, celebrating victories, and never giving up hope for the next championship run.
Those who knew Melvin will remember his loyalty to his family, his sense of humor, his generosity, and his deep pride in his New York roots. His legacy lives on through the family he loved so dearly and the countless memories he leaves behind.
Melvin will be greatly missed and forever remembered by all whose lives he touched.

Visitation will be held at Virginia Funeral Chapel, 350 Slosson Ave, Staten Island, NY 10314, US, on June 9, 2026, from 3:00 pm to 7:00 pm.
A Funeral Service will take place at St. Teresa of the Infant Jesus Roman Catholic Church, 1634 Victory Blvd, Staten Island, NY 10314, on June 10, 2026, at 10:45 am.
A Committal Service will follow at Ocean View The Cemetery Beautiful, 3315 Amboy Rd, Staten Island, NY 10306, on June 10, 2026, at 12:30 pm.
