Michel John Landron, affectionately known as Mich, was born on June 15, 1946, in San Juan, Puerto Rico, and passed away peacefully on June 26, 2026, at 5:25 p.m. on Staten Island, New York. He spent his early childhood in Santurce before immigrating to New York City with his mother at the age of five. Throughout his life, he lived in Manhattan, Brooklyn, and ultimately Staten Island, where he spent his later years.
Mich was a dedicated scholar, earning his undergraduate degree from Hunter College and his Juris Doctor from Fordham University School of Law in 1977. He began his legal career in 1978 as an Assistant Attorney General in the New York State Department of Law’s antitrust division. Over the years, he built an impressive career, serving as a senior associate and chief trial counsel in both federal and state litigation and appeals, ADR hearings, and a wide range of general practice areas including commercial, business, matrimonial, guardianship, estates, and trusts. He also held leadership roles in regulatory compliance at financial institutions, working as Vice President at BNY Mellon from 2007 to 2014 and at HSBC from 2016 to 2017.
Beyond his professional achievements, Mich lived a rich and fulfilling life. He loved reading books of every genre, particularly history books and mystery and crime novels, and found joy in music, from doo-wop to rock, often attending live performances. A lifelong sports fan and basketball and baseball athlete while in college, he especially loved baseball and passionately supported the New York Yankees. His Catholic faith was central to his life; he remained a devoted daily mass attendee at Holy Rosary church even in his later years. Mich will be remembered for his wisdom, humor, and his deep passion for the things he loved.
He is survived by his two children, Ryan and Michael, his beloved grandchild, Nova, and his stepbrother, Dennis Healy. He was preceded in death by his wife, Carol McQuade Landron, his mother and stepfather, Francisca Carretero Healy and Francis X Healy, and his stepbrother, Joseph Healy. His presence, laughter, and love will be missed dearly by all who knew him.
A Committal Service will be held at St. Peters Cemetery, 52 Tyler Ave, New York, NY 10310, US, on June 30, 2026, from 12:00 pm to 12:30 pm.
