Monica "Cookie" Crowley

February 15, 1948 - July 27, 2026

Monica was born in Miami, Fl and was raised in Brooklyn, NY. She was a graduate of Bay Ridge High School for Girls in 1965. In 1966, she moved to the West Brighton area of Staten Island, where she became the proud Mother of her two children Rene and Anthony. She was heavily involved in her children’s school at Sacred Heart, and was a member of the St. Monica’s Mothers Guild. After her marriage to Frank Bacotti, she became a single Mom, while juggling a career working in Manhattan for multiple law firms as a Secretary. Although she held many successful positions, she would often would say her favorite role was being a Legal Secretary at Shearson Lehman Brothers, because that is where she met the love of her life, James Crowley. They were married in 1986 and built a beautiful life together. They bought a house in Staten Island, then moved to Middletown, NJ and eventually settled in New Port Richey, Fl where they lived there for the past 20 years.

Although Monica had a wonderful life she endured many adversities including emphysema, the loss of her Mom and on 9/11 the tragic death of her Son in Law, FF Tom Hannafin.

While battling emphysema for 10 years, she was put on the list for a lung transplant, and in March of 2005 she underwent a double lung transplant. Monica was a living miracle for the last 21 years of her life! God was good! She embraced life and was blessed with a second chance and thrived with her “new lungs”! Two proudest moments of her life was when she became a “Nana” to Kayla and Thomas and then “Nana Nonna” to Tatum, Tucker and Nathan.

She loved spending time with her grandchildren, reading books by Stephen King, Dean Koontz and the Harry Potter Series. We always knew where she was during the week between 7pm-8pm, watching Jeopardy and Wheel of Fortune. She loved the beach, going on cruises, vacations far and near, going to Disney World, spending time in her Pocono’s home, loved to bake Christmas cookies, singing along to her favorite songs on her “Alexa”, she loved to dance, going to AC, responding on FaceBook to her family and friends, FaceTiming with her 3 great grandchildren and ordering from her always talked about Temu website.

The past 10 years she developed friendships with her Mahjong Florida friends, whom she spoke of almost everyday. She cherished her friendships throughout the years with Fran, Bea, Louie and Judy.

Monica, also affectionately known as “Cookie” to her close family and friends, will be dearly missed by everyone who met her. She was a funny, witty, told you like it was person.

Monica is survived by her Husband, James Crowley, her daughter Rene Marino (David), son Anthony Bacotti, grandchildren Kayla Styn (Mark) and Thomas Hannafin (Ana). Great Grandchildren, Tatum, Tucker and Nathan. Sister Nina Albano (Dennis), Brothers, James Azevedo (Dara), Mark Williams (Lori) and Karl Williams. Sister in Laws, Josephine Cantwell and MaryAnn Crowley. Numerous Nieces, Nephews, Cousins and Friends who loved her so much.

Preceded in her death were her Mother, Josephine Scibilia Azevedo, Son-in-Law, Tom Hannafin, Mother-in-Law, Bernice Crowley, In-Laws John and Joan Crowley, Brother-in-Law Robert Crowley, & Brother-In-Law Edward Cantwell.

She was greeted in Heaven with open arms by Jesus and is surrounded in love, with her Mom, Aunts, Uncles, Cousins, Friends, her cat Minnie and Tom.
