

Norman Shawn Calta was born January 14, 1981 to Frances Collins and Norman Keating Jr in Staten Island NY. Norman was the beloved younger brother of Tina and Tammy (deceased). Following the loss of his parents, he was lovingly raised and cared for by his aunt and uncle, Rita and Richard Collins, both of whom preceded him in death. Their devotion, love, and support meant so much to him throughout his life.
Norman shared a special bond with his grandparents, Gertrude ("Goldielocks") and Norman Sr, remaining very close to them until their passing. Among the many relationships he cherished, Norman held a special place in his heart for his dear friends Chris and Mike, and their mother Lorraine. Their friendship, kindness and love brought him happiness throughout his life.
A proud graduate of the Hungerford School, Norman was deeply proud of his achievements and the independence he worked hard to attain. He held a variety of part-time jobs, which enabled him to pursue his greatest passions: collecting baseball cards and professional wrestling memorabilia. His love of these hobbies often led to meaningful connections within the community, he developed many friendships with local shopkeepers who looked forward to his visits and appreciated his friendly personality and fun conversations. Norman enjoyed sharing stories about his daily adventures and social encounters, his enthusiasm, warmth, and sense of humor left a lasting impression on everyone he met.
Norman had a lifelong love of movies, particularly gangster films, superhero adventures, and comedies, which brought him enjoyment and sparked many lively conversations. Norman was also a devoted fan of the New York Yankees. Cheering for the Yankees brought Norman much joy over the years and was another way he connected with family and friends.
Norman also had a passion for gaming, which brought him countless hours of enjoyment throughout his life. He especially enjoyed video games that challenged his skills and allowed him to immerse himself in exciting adventures. Gaming was not only one of his favorite pastimes but also a way for him to share experiences with others.
As a resident of a Community Resources group home in Port Richmond, Norman worked diligently to build an independent life. He was a strong advocate for himself and approached daily challenges with determination and resourcefulness. When faced with obstacles, he never hesitated to seek assistance from local elected officials and community leaders, demonstrating both his persistence and confidence.
Norman resided in Florida for a number of years with his sister Tammy, where they shared many meaningful memories. Norman briefly resided in Delaware with family friends, the Karnbach’s, before returning to Staten Island, a place he was proud to call home. Throughout the years, his cousin Brian remained a devoted presence in his life, visiting often and providing steadfast care, support, and companionship.
Norman will be remembered for his resilience, independence, friendly spirit, and unwavering enthusiasm for the people and interests he cherished. He is now at peace, reunited with the family members and loved ones who preceded him in death and whom he loved so dearly.
