Born on February 8, 1949, Oogie was a lifelong Staten Island resident and a familiar face to many throughout the community.
She was the owner of Ground Level, a neighborhood tavern and restaurant that served as a gathering place for locals, friends, and regulars for many years. Whether you stopped in for a meal, a drink, or simply good company, chances are you knew Oogie.
She was predeceased by her husband, Roy E. Smith, a retired FDNY firefighter, who passed away in 2017 from cancer related to his service at the World Trade Center following the September 11th attacks.
Oogie is survived by her daughters, Melissa Erdelyi of Florida and Melanie Smith of Staten Island. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Blake Erdelyi and Brielle Smith.
Family and friends are invited to pay their respects on Saturday, June 6, 2026, from 2:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. at Casey Funeral Home in Staten Island.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the FDNY Foundation in Olga's memory.
The family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks to everyone who has offered condolences, prayers, kind words, and support during this difficult time. Your thoughtfulness and remembrance of Oogie have brought great comfort to her loved ones and are deeply appreciated.
