

Chito was born on May 11, 1937, in Lian, Batangas, to Encarnacion Medrano and Angel Magahis. He grew up as the middle child of five alongside his brothers, Romulo and Berting, and his sisters, Medy and Lucy. He attended Far Eastern University in Manila, Philippines, where he earned a Bachelor of Arts in Accounting.
On December 8, 1962, he married Josefina “Josie” Aguila, sharing 63 years of loving marriage. In 1972, Chito immigrated to the United States, followed by his family in 1973. Despite encountering a new country, language, and customs, he excelled in his career as an accountant, emerged as a leader in his local Filipino community through his involvement with the Asian American Christian Mission Association (AACMA) and the Philippine American Civic and Cultural Community of Staten Island (PACCSI), and raised a successful and close-knit family.
Chito is survived by his wife, Josie; his three children, Macrina “Jemma” Reyes, Pacifico “Boyet” Magahis Jr., and Paul “PJ” Magahis; their spouses; nine grandchildren; and one great-grandchild. Among those who predeceased him were his twin children, Mercedes and Lourdes, who passed away in infancy. Chito will be lovingly remembered for the enduring example he set through a life defined by resilience, sacrifice, and unwavering devotion to his family. His legacy will live on in the generosity, confidence, and love he instilled in the generations he leaves behind.
A visitation will be held at Casey Funeral Home, located at 350 Slosson Ave, Staten Island, NY 10314, on January 4, 2026, from 2:00–6:00 PM. The Funeral Mass will take place at St. Teresa of the Infant Jesus, located at 1634 Victory Blvd, Staten Island, NY 10314, on January 5, 2026, at 10:45 AM.
