Loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather
Patrick Jordan, 94, of West Brighton, died in his sleep on Friday morning, July 31, 2020.
He leaves behind three sons, Steven, Richard, and Kevin; one daughter, Mary-Christine; two daughters-in-law, Rosanna and Joan; and one son-in-law, Augie. He is also survived by seven grandchildren, four great-grandchildren and many others. He was predeceased by his wife, Bridget, who died in April 2006.
Patrick touched the lives of all of those around him through his strength, perseverance, loyalty, and "go-get-em-tiger!" attitude. He was born in Menlough County Galway, Ireland, on Dec. 5, 1925, where he and his 11 younger siblings helped tend the farm. At the ripe young age of 21, Patrick came to America on a three-week boat ride in search of the American dream.
He found it. Patrick worked several odd jobs before landing a job as a cashier at the A&P grocery chain. He quickly worked his way up to store manager and remained with the company until he retired in May 1993.
A U.S. Army veteran, Patrick was called to serve in the Korean War at the age of 26. Shortly before, in February 1952, he married the love of his life, his wife Bridget Kearny, who he met at an Irish dance in the city. The two would remain lifelong partners, eventually moving to Staten Island and starting a family together.
Proud islander, American, immigrant, and veteran, Patrick loved and was loved by many. A one-of-a-kind man, he will be greatly missed by his family and all who knew and loved him.
Due to COVID-19 the services will be limited to only immediate family. Any flowers or arrangements can be sent to Harmon Funeral Home, 571 Forest Ave., Staten Island, N.Y. 10310.
The viewing will be held today, Monday, Aug. 3, at Harmon Funeral Home, from 4 to 8 p.m. The Funeral Mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday morning at the Sacred Heart Church, followed by a burial at Moravian Cemetery.
