Native Staten Islander Paul William Davis, 51, of Taquesta, Fla., a carpenter and business owner who will be remembered as an 'amazing' person and father, died Wednesday in Jupiter (Fla.) Medical Center.
Born in Willowbrook, he attended Port Richmond High School. He lived in his native community until relocating to Florida in 2008.
Mr. Davis worked as a carpenter while living on the Island. In Florida, he owned and operated EastCoast Biomedical, repairing and maintaining science and medical technology machinery and equipment for various institutions.
He enjoyed motorcycles and boats, was a gifted artist and was fond of drawing and cartoons. He also loved his best four-legged friend, his dog, Bella.
"He was the most amazing person and father to have in your corner. If you were upset or scared or nervous, he would calm and center and ground you, remind you why you were there or doing a specific thing. We knew he was always behind us, supporting us 100 percent, helping us know we could do whatever we wanted in our lives," said his daughter, Amanda Davis.
"And he was funny, he had the best sense of humor in the entire world. He could make a little joke with any situation and help people feel better about it and themselves," she added.
Mr. Davis was a former parishioner of Holy Family R.C. Church, Westerleigh.
Surviving, along with his daughter, Amanda, are his wife of 26 years, the former Lisa Edelstein; his daughter, Alexandra Davis; his mother, Mary Lou Davis; his brother, Frederick, and his sisters, Sandra, Mary and Patty Davis and Tammy DeRiggi.
There will be a memorial service Tuesday at 7 p.m. in the Casey Funeral Home, Castleton Corners. Arrangements included cremation.
