Born on July 3, 1950, in Samreboi, Ghana, Philip was the beloved son of Janet Carle and Andrew Ohene.
Philip was driven by hard work and determination. After arriving in the United States in 1974, he drove a New York City taxi cab to support himself and single-handedly paid for his education. He attended the College of Staten Island (CSI), where he pursued his undergraduate studies in economics, and later graduated with his Juris Doctor from the University at Buffalo Law School.
Philip began his work as a criminal defense attorney with the District Attorneys office before venturing into private practice. Eventually, with the help of his wife and colleagues he pivoted to focus on immigration law, where he devoted himself to helping others navigate the same challenges he once faced in pursuit of their own American dreams.
To many he was Lawyer Ohene, to a few he was Dad, but to most he was Uncle Phil.
Though he wore a tough exterior, Uncle Phil had a kind and gentle heart and was always ready to help others without hesitation. He was a guiding light and a source of comfort for those close to him.
Though Uncle Phil may not have liked being the center of attention, we are here to honor him. He was a man of immense generosity, and he left a lasting impact on everyone who knew him.
Philip is survived by his loving wife Comfort Ohene and his two daughters, Juliana and Matilda. He will be remembered as a man who worked tirelessly for his family, fought passionately for his clients, and gave selflessly to his community. His memory will live on in the hearts of his wife, daughters, family, and all who were fortunate enough to know him.
Rest in peace, Philip.
Your light and love continue through all of us.
