
Born Rita Verrier in the Bronx, she moved to Oakwood in 1953 and to Clark, N.J., about 25 years ago. She moved to Vermont in 2005.
As a young woman, Mrs. Free worked as a contometer operator for the Eagle Pencil Company in Manhattan. She later worked in the accounting department for Schroeder’s Inspectors of Petroleum Management, also in Manhattan.
She enjoyed spending her leisure time with her grandchildren, and was a former parishioner of St. Patrick’s R.C. Church, Richmond.
Her husband of 21 years, Henry, died in 1963.
Surviving are two sons, Henry and Thomas; a daughter, Rosemary Free Mahlmann; a sister, Cathleen Roberts; three grandchildren, and six great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be Friday from the Casey Funeral Home, Castleton Corners, with a mass at 10 a.m. in St. Patrick’s Church. Burial will follow in St. Peter’s Cemetery, West Brighton.
