It is with great sorrow that the children of Rosalie Coppolo (née DiLieto) announced her peaceful passing on August 29, 2020 at home surrounded by family. At 97 years of age, she was a native Staten Islander, born and raised in New Brighton. Rosalie was preceded in death by her loving husband, Joseph, her childhood sweetheart, and 9 siblings. She was fond of saying that she was married to “the boy next door” for 49 years.
Rosalie’s family was her pride and joy. She is lovingly remembered by her children Catherine Kohlmann Hall, Barbara Burns Hall, Dr. Joseph Coppolo Jr., Linda Miller DuBois and Charles Coppolo, beloved mother-in-law of Glen, Dennis, Christine, Paul, and Donna. A doting grandmother, adored by 19 grandchildren, 33 great grandchildren, 1 great-great grandchild and many treasured nieces and nephews.
She graduated from Curtis High School and was employed by the NYC Board of Education as a school aide at PS 16 and PS 18. Rosalie was a parishioner of St. Peter’s RC Church and a member of their Mothers Club. She was an excellent seamstress, particularly known for creating beautiful bassinet skirts, communion dresses, bridal party gowns and draperies. A talented cook and baker, Rosalie enjoyed making delicious meals for large Sunday dinners, holidays, and big celebrations. Her favorite pastimes included many family vacations and trips to AC.
In lieu of flowers, contributions to the Salvatore and Elena Esposito Staten Island Division of the American Parkinson’s Disease Association and Vietnam Veterans, Chapter 421, P.O. Box 100097, Staten Island, NY 10310 would be most appreciated.
A private viewing took place at Casey McCallum Funeral Home followed by a Mass at St. Peter’s RC Church and burial at St. Peter’s Cemetery.
