

STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. -- Former Dongan Hills resident Roseann W. Mitchell, 75, of Monroe Township, N.J., a retired cosmetology teacher and dedicated homemaker, died Saturday in Jersey Shore University Medical Center, Neptune.
Born and raised in Brooklyn, she graduated from James Madison High School there.
Mrs. Mitchell lived in Dongan Hills for over 40 years, until relocating to New Jersey about five years ago.
Primarily a homemaker, she later returned to school to become a cosmetology teacher at Wilfred Academy on the Island.
She was a member of the Moose Lodge, Deborah League, Grandmothers Club, Red Hat Society and the Columbiettes.
Mrs. Mitchell was vibrant and energetic and loved life, her family said. She was good-natured, caring and loved by everyone she knew.
She enjoyed crocheting, sewing, cooking and baking. She also liked playing cards and bingo, bowling, dancing, socializing and traveling. She loved to throw parties and was great at entertaining.
Mrs. Mitchell was a parishioner of St. Ann's R.C. Church, Dongan Hills.
Samuel (Butch), her husband of 39 years, died in 2000.
Surviving are her son, John; her daughters, Terri Gunderson, Roseann Henne, Katherine Bruder and Sandra Barbarise; her brother, Gerard Walsh; 10 grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be Wednesday from the Virginia Funeral Chapel, Dongan Hills, with a Mass at 10 a.m. in St. Ann's Church. Burial will follow in Ocean View Cemetery, Oakwood.
