Ruth C. Mork (nee Schuhle) was born in Bay Ridge, Brooklyn. After marrying Ib J. Mork, she moved to Staten Island in October of 1958. A long-time resident of Great Kills, she and her family lived for a short time in the US Virgin Islands and Maryland.
A graduate of the nursing program at Methodist Hospital, Ruth worked for many years as a registered nurse at Richmond Memorial Hospital (SI Hospital South) and at Eger Nursing Home. After retirement in 1989, Ruth enjoyed gardening, yoga, reading, and spending time with her family. Her favorite pastime was the challenge of the Sunday New York Times crossword puzzle.
Her love of nature started with her camping honeymoon in Maine, was cultivated during her time in the Virgin Islands and blossomed when she and her husband purchased a small cabin in the Adirondacks.
As young adults, Ruth and Ib were avid square dancers and belonged to the Staten Square Set. They were honored to dance across the Verrazano Narrows Bridge on opening day in November 1964.
Ruth was predeceased by her husband of 66 years, Ib J. Mork. She is survived by her children: Kim Mork, Leslie Mork-Geist (and husband Michael), Leta Mork, Claudia Lotito, 11 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to: Angel's on Earth Rescue of SI, Staten Island Hope Animal Rescue, or an animal rescue organization of your choice.
